 SOS Children's Villages
(SOS)is the world's largest charity dedicated to orphaned and abandoned children - extremely vulnerable children who have no one to love and protect them. Founded in 1949 and now operating in 132 countries, SOS Children's Villages provides these children with an SOS family (An extensively trained SOS mother and new brothers and sisters with natural siblings kept within same home) within a supportive "Village" community. SOS is not faith based; rather each of our homes reflects the culture of the community in which it is located. SOS commits to the orphaned or abandoned child from infancy to young adulthood ensuring that they have all the life skills and knowledge to become active and self-reliant members of the community. In fact, an SOS child never 'graduates' but is always part of his or her SOS family. In addition to raising about 65,000 children, SOS reaches out to help over 600,000 vulnerable children and their families through educational, medical and community support activities. Daily Bread Food Bank is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to fighting hunger. Last year, over 905,000 people in the GTA relied on food banks; 34% of those clients were children. Daily Bread and its member agencies serve the majority of these people through neighbourhood food banks and meal programs in over 160 member agencies. In an effort to eliminate the need for food banks, Daily Bread educates the public, conducts research and advocates realistic government policies.
